Embroidery Stabilizer - Embroidery Backing & Topping
· Embroidery topping (Solvy) will help hold down softer high pile material for crisper thread outlines giving your embroidery a more professional appearance. Use Solvy when embroidering on high nap fabrics such as bath towels, corduroy, velvet or velour. Topping usually is water soluble. Pull the outer edge of the topping away leaving a small amount under the stitch area. Moisten and the excess topping will dissolve.
· Embroidery backing is available in cut away or tear away. Each embroidery backing style has its own characteristics. Both are design to add stability to embroidered fabrics.
o Cut-Away backing- (black cut-away stabilizers are available for darker embroidered garments) A higher density embroidery backing with a soft fabric feel. This embroidery backing is intended to stay with the embroidered garment. Cut-away backing is trimmed close to the embroidered design to remove excess product. Cut -away backing is better for garments close to skin.
o Tear-away backing – (black tear-away stabilizers are available for darker embroidered garments) A lower density embroidery backing with a crisp paper feel. This embroidery backing is intended to be completely removed except under the embroidered thread. Scissors are unnecessary when removing this product. A light pull and this stabilizer should separate at the stitch. Tear-away backing reinforces the embroidered fabric helping add a crisp, taunt appearance. This backing is better for hats or outerwear.
